IWater Polo Scholarships and Recruiting

Be proactive! Because of the limited number of water polo programs, it will be very important for you to do everything you can to get in touch with college water polo coaches. That means compiling your information, sending it to coaches, following up with phone calls and emails, and developing that relationship with them!

There are 70+ men’s water polo teams and 100+ women’s teams at the NCAA DI, DII, and DIII levels. The men’s programs receive 4.5 water polo scholarships per team, and the women’s 8 per team. Coaches can divide these scholarships however they choose since water polo is an equivalency sport.

Get Organized!

High school water polo players need to do everything they can if they want to get recruited to play. In order to do this, they need to be organized, dedicated, and a successful athlete. There are many steps to the water polo recruiting process and an overwhelming amount of information to know. Your chances of landing a water polo scholarship depend on you getting organized.

Want to Play? Make sure you swim!

More and more college coaches are looking for water polo players who compete both in water polo and on the swim team. Being able to train year round has great benefits, and the stronger you are at swimming, the better you will be at water polo. Consider swimming for your high school or find a club team.

Academics: The Key To Landing a Water Polo Scholarship

Making sure you have strong GPA and SAT/ACT scores is just as important as your water polo training. Coaches want well-rounded student athletes who are focused in the classroom and strong in the pool. Having solid academics can help you earn a water polo scholarship, even if the team can’t give you one.

Getting financial aid to help you earn your degree can be a great opportunity but you have to work hard to get it.
